Terms of Service
- You must be 18 or older, and you must be honest about who you are.
- A person matches you. We work hard at it, but we cannot promise you a relationship.
- Harassment, abuse and explicit content get you removed. There is no warning system for the serious ones.
- Report anyone who behaves badly. We review every report within 24 hours and remove people who deserve removing.
- We do not run background checks. Meeting strangers carries real risk — please read the safety section.
These terms are the agreement between you and Unicorn Project LLC (“we”, “us”). They cover unicornandmatchmaker.com, the member app at app.unicornandmatchmaker.com, and The Unicorn Project mobile app (together, “the Service”). By applying or using the Service, you accept them.
1. Who may use the Service
You must be 18 or older, legally able to enter a contract, and not barred from using the Service under any applicable law. You must never have been convicted of a felony, a sex offence, or a crime involving violence, and you must not be required to register as a sex offender anywhere.
One account per person. Do not create an account for anyone else, and do not use someone else’s.
2. What the Service is
The Unicorn Project is human matchmaking. A matchmaker reads what you wrote and decides who to introduce you to. That is the product, and it is deliberately not an algorithm and not an endless feed.
We will do our best work for you. We cannot and do not guarantee a match, a date, a second date, or a relationship. Nobody honestly can.
The Service is currently free to use. If we ever introduce fees, we will tell you clearly before you are charged, and you will never be charged without agreeing first.
3. Your account
You sign in with a link sent to your email address, so your email account is your key — keep it secure, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has access to it.
You agree that what you tell us is true: your age, your name, your photo, and your situation. Photos must be of you, recent, and not misleading. Misrepresenting yourself to another member is the fastest way to lose your account, and it is the thing members are most often hurt by.
4. Community rules
These apply to your messages, your photo, your application answers, and your behaviour on a date arranged through us. Do not:
- Harass, threaten, stalk, intimidate or abuse anyone.
- Post or send sexually explicit or pornographic content, or anything depicting violence or gore.
- Post content that is hateful towards a group or a person — including on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation.
- Solicit money, advertise, run a scam, or promote a business.
- Impersonate anyone, or lie about your age or identity.
- Share another member’s private information, photos or messages outside the Service.
- Contact a member who has blocked you, or attempt to reach them another way.
- Use the Service if you are under 18, or seek anyone under 18 through it.
- Scrape, reverse-engineer, or attack the Service or the people on it.
We have no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. Content that breaks these rules is removed and the member who posted it is removed with it. For harassment, explicit content involving anyone who did not consent, threats, and anything involving a minor, removal is immediate and permanent — there is no warning and no second chance.
5. Reporting someone
If a member behaves badly, report them. In the mobile app, open the match and choose Report; in the member app, use the report link on the match; or email unicorn.and.matchmaker@gmail.com. Reporting also blocks them and ends the match immediately, so you will not hear from them again while we look.
We review every report within 24 hours and act on it — removing content, ending matches, and ejecting members where it is warranted. You do not need to justify blocking someone, and we do not tell them who reported them.
If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. We are not an emergency service.
6. Your content
What you write and the photo you upload remain yours. You give us permission to store, display and share it only as far as running the Service requires — showing your profile to your matchmaker and to the person you are matched with. We do not use your photo or your words in advertising or anywhere public. That permission ends when you delete your account, except where we have to keep something (see the Privacy Policy).
You are responsible for what you post, and you confirm you have the right to post it.
7. Safety — please read this one
We do not conduct criminal background checks or identity verification on members. We read applications and use our judgement, and that is not the same thing.
You are meeting a stranger. Meet in public for the first few dates. Tell a friend where you are going and when you expect to be back. Arrange your own transport. Do not send money to anyone you have met through the Service, for any reason, however convincing the story — this is the most common way people are harmed on dating services. Trust your instincts and leave if something feels wrong.
Interactions with other members are your own responsibility. We are not a party to them, we do not supervise dates, and we are not liable for anyone else’s conduct.
8. Ending things
You can delete your account at any time — in the mobile app, Profile → Delete account, or by emailing us. We can suspend or terminate your account if you break these terms, if you behave in a way that puts members at risk, or if we stop offering the Service. Where it is fair to do so, we will tell you why.
9. Disclaimers and liability
The Service is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and we do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for the conduct of any member — online or in person. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you have paid us in the past twelve months or one hundred US dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, in which case they apply to you only as far as they are permitted, and nothing here limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
10. Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do, and we will email you before a material change takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the new version.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of Massachusetts have jurisdiction — except where the law of the place you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally, which these terms do not take away.
12. Apps downloaded from the App Store
If you got our iOS app from Apple’s App Store, this section applies and forms the end-user licence agreement for it. We grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, under Apple’s Usage Rules.
- This agreement is between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- We, not Apple, are solely responsible for support and maintenance. Apple has no obligation to provide either.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. Apple has no other warranty obligation, and any other claims are our responsibility.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim that the app or your use of it infringes intellectual property rights, and for product liability claims, claims under consumer protection law, and claims that the app fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements.
- You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this agreement and may enforce it against you.
